COLLAGES | PHOTOMONTAGE
Accretion
This photomontage is a study of environments in flux compiled of an archive of hundreds of photographs that connect themes of constructed landscapes from antiquity to today’s urban gentrification on a micro and macro level. The images collaged range from the demolition of the Chicago housing project, Cabrini-Green, freshly built hi-rise condo complexes of Chicago’s Gold Coast, to a miniature sculpted cave, and ancient walls dividing the pastures of western Ireland.
The archive was collected and filmed over the course of a year while living in Chicago and Ireland. The cave was physically built and photographed with a large format camera within the apartment located between the opposing sites of urban transition.

On The Fence
This photomontage is inspired by the 2011 Chilean Student Movement and protest. During that time, students from elementary to grad school symbolically stacked their chairs on fences throughout the capital city to protest for a better education system. To create this piece, an archive was created from working on a documentary project on location. The images were collaged to form a structure similar to blueprints of a roller coaster ride (a metaphor for the fluctuations in a social movement). The collage was transferred to a detached isolated door hanging on the wall; which, like the chairs, loses its traditional function to act as a symbol of disruption.

Power + Lines
This structure pieces together images of power lines strung together in Vietnam and entangled with the lines of United States. This intense electrical infrastructure of intertwined cables were documented while traveling through Ho Chi Mihn City and living in downtown Chicago. The juxtaposition of minimalist, organized cables with jumbled heaps become immeshed as an infinite loop and invites the viewer to question how socio-economic powers and resources are globally interconnected and imbalanced.
